Welcome to this post! Today, we’ll discuss a few exercises I carry out after creating my Avatar Map and Empathy Map. These exercises are:
1️⃣ Do You Like Your Customer Avatar?
2️⃣ How PrepNation Can Help You Succeed with Your Exams
3️⃣ How PrepNation Delivers on Its Promise to Help Amaka Succeed in WAEC and JAMB
4️⃣ The Reverse Amaka Okoro
If you’ve landed on this post, please note that we started by creating an Avatar Map for a fictional company, PrepNation. Click here to view that post. Afterward, we created an Empathy Map. Click here to read that post.
Now, let’s begin!
1. Do You Like Your Customer Avatar?
Have you ever considered whether you would enjoy spending time with your customer avatar, the person you are marketing or selling to? If they were a real person, would you want to spend time with them? What are the things you genuinely like and dislike about them?
Let me tell you a story about a project I recently worked on. The company I helped disliked their target audience, or as they referred to it, their avatar. They felt no connection with them and didn’t enjoy selling to them. This disconnect had a major impact on how they marketed their product, which ultimately led to a complete shift in their strategy
🗯️Back to Our Project
😊 What I Like About Amaka
She’s Focused and Motivated:
Amaka’s top priority is to excel in her WAEC and JAMB exams. Her determination to succeed makes her the ideal audience for PrepNation. She is looking for targeted, effective learning tools rather than just random content.
She’s Tech-Savvy:
Amaka spends time on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Since PrepNation is a digital platform, this makes it easy to connect with her where she already spends time.
She Balances Life Well:
Amaka isn’t solely focused on studying. She also values her social life. This balance allows PrepNation to position itself as a flexible learning tool that doesn’t require all of her time.
She’s Open to Educational Content:
Amaka engages with influencers and educational content online. This opens up opportunities for PrepNation to reach her through creative marketing.
😔 What I Don’t Like About Amaka
She’s Prone to Burnout:
Amaka’s drive can lead to overload. Balancing her social life and studies isn’t easy, and she might feel overwhelmed if PrepNation doesn’t make studying simple and stress-free.
She Struggles with Time Management:
Like many students, Amaka tends to procrastinate. Without the right tools, she might lose focus and fall behind.
She Depends on Rewards:
Amaka thrives on external motivation, such as leaderboards and badges. This reliance can make it difficult for her to stay consistent without constant reinforcement.
She Might Hesitate to Trust AI:
Even though she is tech-savvy, Amaka might not fully embrace AI-based learning tools. She might fear that these tools won’t match the quality of human tutors.
Selling to a Persona You Like
Creating an avatar isn’t just about demographics and interests. It’s about building a person you enjoy working with. When you like your avatar, it shows in your messaging, tone, and product. For PrepNation, liking Amaka meant understanding her challenges and designing solutions tailored to her needs.
Addressing What We Don’t Like
To make the avatar work for the company, we had to address the “dislikes”:
Preventing Burnout:
PrepNation implemented short, manageable study modules and regular break reminders to help Amaka stay refreshed. By offering personalized learning paths, they ensured she wouldn’t feel overwhelmed by excessive material.
Time Management Tools:
Easy-to-use scheduling tools allowed Amaka to plan her study sessions effectively. Milestones and progress trackers kept her motivated and on track, helping her stay consistent without added stress.
Balancing External and Internal Motivation:
Rewards were still used, but they focused on personal growth. For instance, badges were earned for mastering challenging topics, rather than simply logging hours of study.
Building Trust in AI:
PrepNation highlighted real-life success stories of students benefiting from their AI tools. By offering a hybrid model that combined AI with live tutor support, they reassured students like Amaka that human assistance was always accessible.
Final Thoughts
If you’re not excited about your customer avatar, take a step back and ask yourself:
➡️ Would I enjoy spending time with this person?
➡️ What do I like or dislike about them?
➡️ How can I address the parts I don’t like?
Your avatar should inspire you. When you enjoy working for them, you will create better products, more engaging campaigns, and stronger connections.
So, do you like your avatar? If not, maybe it’s time to make some changes.
